Challenge

Dispatchers and drivers coordinated via WhatsApp groups, causing lost updates, duplicate deliveries, and no audit trail when things went wrong.

Solution

Designed and built a lightweight PWA with role-separated views for drivers and dispatchers. Offline-tolerant with service workers, optimised for low-end Android devices and slow connections.

Process

+Ride-along with drivers and shadow dispatchers across two shift types to understand real workflow.
+Define minimum viable feature set with operations lead — avoid scope creep in critical path.
+Design mobile-first UI in Figma with low-literacy-friendly interaction patterns.
+Build Next.js PWA with MySQL backend, optimistic UI updates, and background sync.
+Deploy on internal server with progressive rollout — 3 drivers first, then full fleet.

Result

Replaced ad-hoc messaging with a structured ops layer that gave management real-time visibility, reduced manual coordination, and scaled smoothly to a 60-driver fleet.
